As I knock on the door of the villa, it is opened by one of the prison guards. Captain Isaías approaches, shakes my hand, and invites me to sit on the sofa. He also sits down, but the two guards, with whom he is talking, remain standing. They discuss problems that occurred during his absence, and, because the truck is broken, they look for solutions to transport the visitors. In two days about 500 people will come to the Father's Day party. They will range from babies to elders. They are coming with bags and bags of presents such as clothes, utensils and food. If the vehicle is not repaired, they will have to cross the island by foot.
After more than half an hour of conversation, one of the guards turns to the Captain and says, in an accusing tone, that the tower guards saw me taking photos of some prisoners posing with a C.V. medal. "I think he should be forbidden from doing this.", advices the guard. The Captain doesn't express himself.
After the guards leave, I tell the Captain that Marcos, the driver, will be back for the weekend and that I need another place to stay.
The Captain tells me about a reporter whom he had welcomed to stay in one of the rooms in his house. "He was very friendly, as much that I received him very well, but when he went back to Rio de Janeiro, the next day he published an article completely opposite from what I expected.", he complains and gives me a key for another abandoned house.
As we are talking about the Father's Day party, he interrupts me. "Who said that you are going to photograph the party? I am not giving you the permission to photograph it.", he tells me in an ironic tone, with a smile. We stay in silence for a moment. "You are not going to do this to me. You know how important it is for me to photograph the relationship between the prisoners, their family and friends.", I argue politely. "Let's see", says the Captain, finishing the conversation.
