| We reach a metal gate near bordering a busy street and railway tracks. About 100 teenage girls mill about in backpacks and jean jackets. Some are with their mothers. Some are runaways. All are hoping for a glimpse of one of the increasingly elusisve, golden-haired Kellys, who live on a boat and in large steel containers along Mulheimer Harbor. |

| Along the rocky shore of the harbor, fans snap pictures of the Kelly boat or stare fixedly at it through binoculars. A few girls forlornly gaze through the gate of the Kelly compound. Most busily study ubiquitious photo albums, swapping Kelly stories and legends, oohing and exclaiming over blurry photos. The much-prized photos are swapped among pen pals, or bought and sold for a few German marks. |
