Slaughter and Feast, (continued)
Coming over the crest of a hill on his farm,
Buyanto Tsydypov catches sight of the flock of sheep he is looking for. Steering his Volga sedan off the dirt road
he drives straight across the field toward the flock, stopping just before
he is close enough to scare them away with the sound of the motor.
Buyanto and his brother-in-law, Zhinat-Dorgo, charge out of the car towards the
sheep, one running around the edges of the flock to keep them from scattering, the other
maneuvering toward the animal they have chosen. Buyanto has guests in his home, and
according to Buryat tradition, tonight he will slaughter and prepare the sheep in their
honor.
