Zhargat, 31
Unemployed

Bakhar, 72
Pensioner

Sitting outside their home in Galtai.

Bakhar:

Life is good, life is good. We have everything we need. We can grow our own potatoes, we have our own cow. Things are much worse for people in the cities. There they have to buy everything, and nobody has any money.
Zhargat:

A lot of people don't have any money because they are unemployed. I'm unemployed myself; even though I have worked all kinds of different jobs, I can't find any work now. It's a big problem -- half of this village is unemployed.
Bakhar:

I don't work anymore, I'm on pension. I'm 72 years old -- 72! After 70 you really shouldn't be alive anymore, I think. By 70 you've seen it all, you should get ready to meet death...

What do you want to take pictures of narrow-eyed Buryats for, anyway?
